Cricket returned to Theale this weekend with 33 players getting out on the field. At Theale we saw a Hammad Ali XI take on a Rob Why XI.
Winning the toss that didn’t happen, Hammad elected to bat first, Micky Mehta and debutant Dubs Wood set a fantastic platform with the latter playing some exquisite strokes. Solid middle order contributions saw them reach a respectable 220 in their 50 overs. With Alastair doing most of the damage with 4 important wickets.
In reply, James Bozarth forged a comeback after being struck for 18 in his first over, hostile fast bowling saw him clean bowl the top three. Matthew Hearn Phillips steadied the ship with a beautifully crafted 48 before James removed his off stump with a clever slower ball to claim another wicket on his way to a 6-fer. Contributions from a lengthy batting line up saw Rob’s XI get over the line in a tight game.
On the same day, a young 3rd XI fell short against West Reading. Batting first the 3rd XI scored 170 with Sachin scoring 50.
A fantastic day and what an amazing feeling to be back!
